The debut album of Andrey Zvonkov and Dmitry Sevastyanov, a guitarist and a drummer, both tempered by the work in Russian music business. A pure instrumental attempt to create a new genre – music for hipsters, another name is hip rock.
Album reviewFrom the very first notes of the first disc of the project Zvonok Hip Rock each music lover 1) has a feeling “I have already heard this”; 2) asks “where exactly?” Afterwards two albums of Jeff Beck from the beginning of the XXI century should emerge in the memory: the same hard rhythm and wild improvisatory guitar playing with riffs.
But the comparison fast disappears, especially if listen to the album for the second time. The drums in it are written better than Beck’s and they play not a hard rhythm of drum-machine but a vivid response to the music. The drummer Dmitry Sevastyanov works powerfully and in various ways, adding drive into the playing of Andrey Zvonkov whose guitar sometimes goes into jazz improvisation, sometimes seems talking. Sometimes the music looks like a monologue but more often it is dialogue of guitar and drums: not a row but rather a conversation, when the participants speak on the same topic complementing each other. The riot of colors is spiced with electronic effects: with the sounds of grand piano, with the noises that also create coloring, embellish the base. By the way, about the riot of colors…its music part is excellently illustrated in the booklet by the painting riot. In total, the album leaves a very pleasant and at the same time rare! feeling – the desire to listen to it again and again in order to catch all the nuances. And as for me personally, I have found out that the musicians had created a new genre – the above-mentioned in the project’s name “hip rock”.
