Album review“A new album of the well-known in musical world EVGENY LEBEDEV WORLD TRIO – a project of Evgeny Lebedev, young but very popular jazz pianist – is notable for musical variety which is a rare quality of piano trios. Another merit of the album is that it keeps us listening from the beginning till the end; intonations change in proper moments and form a slow and continuous route of an experienced musical traveler (that’s what the album name implies). The start piece...
“Land of the Sun” captures a listener with its meditative rhythm; the second composition (“Two and a Half”) adds to the trip something philosophical; the third one is dedicated to Esbj?rn Svensson, a famous Swedish pianist and the leader of his trio, the piece leads to contemplation which will be knocked off in the next composition, folk Bulgarian dance with a complicated metre which begins with vocals and in the final it transfers into jazz improvisation. Further on till the end of the album musicians play and play games changing the pieces’ moods from calm to fast, but tunefulness is not lost and listeners enjoy beautiful music and its (of course only in our perception) easiness of impeccant performance”.
